Monster Quest: Bunyip
Steve ‘Outback’ O’Reilly involves you in a six-day investigation that gradually shifts from simple fieldwork to something far less predictable. Early tasks revolve around gathering samples and helping him stabilize his research, but the deeper you go, the more the local ecosystem seems to react in subtle ways. Conversations with locals, unusual animal behavior, and scattered objects all contribute to a growing sense that something is influencing the reef. The Bunyip itself is never directly pursued at first; instead, its presence becomes clearer through these accumulating signs, until everything converges toward a final encounter.

Day 1
one fish
You need to catch one fish near the nearby shoals. This first step is simple, but it allows Steve to confirm that you can handle basic fishing tasks before moving further.
tailor
You must catch 4 Tailors near the helicopter landing area. Steve uses their DNA as the base component for his communication serum, making this step essential for his research.
wooden crate
You need to retrieve the wooden crate located on a nearby beach with a wreck at the bottom. It contains tools Steve requires to continue preparing the serum.
purple sea urchin
You need to collect purple sea urchins near the protruding rock. Steve studies their sharp spikes to improve how the serum interacts with living organisms.
barramundi
You must catch a total of 90 kg of Barramundi near the northern islet. This catch is required to arrange a meeting with the local community and learn more about the Bunyip.
Day 2
golden trevally
You need to catch 3 Golden Trevally near Devil Island. They are considered a favorite prey of the Bunyip, helping Steve understand its habits.
turtlegrass
You must now collect 8 Turtlegrass along the western coast. Steve needs them to attract Dugongs and observe their condition.
marine traps
You need to clear marine traps located near Kangaroo Island. These illegal traps are dangerous for Dugongs and must be removed.
sea cow
After clearing the traps, you must check the Dugongs in the same area to ensure they are calm and unharmed.
boomerang
You must retrieve a boomerang located to the northwest. It’s a misplaced item Steve wants back before continuing.
Day 3
saltwater crocodile
You need to locate a saltwater crocodile in the northwest region near a popular beach. Steve plans to relocate it due to its proximity to Bunyip territory.
albacore
You must catch Albacore in deep eastern waters. They are active during the day, which differs from their usual behavior.
portuguese man o' war
You need to collect 3 Portuguese man o’ war on the western beach. Steve uses their venom as part of the serum.
spanish mackerel
You must catch a total of 90 kg of Spanish mackerel near New Caledonia island. This step reinforces what you’ve learned from local legends.
Day 4
blue ringed octopus
You must find a blue ringed octopus in the southeast. Its camouflage abilities are used to improve communication research.
plastic barrel
You need to recover 6 plastic barrels south of the shipwreck. Steve uses them to store toxic ingredients safely.
port jackson shark
You must catch a Port Jackson shark near the northern beach. Steve wants to understand what is disturbing them.
sunglasses
You need to retrieve sunglasses stolen by seagulls in the northeast before moving to the final steps.
Day 5
pinctada
You must collect Pinctada in the north near the pier. These mollusks help detect toxins affecting the reef.
carpet shark
You must catch a Carpet shark in the central reef area. Its unusual appearance loosely matches descriptions of the creature.
lawn chair
You need to retrieve the lawn chair at the identified coordinates. Steve uses it to review everything before the final day.
Day 6
parrot feather
You must collect a parrot feather on the western shore. This final element completes Steve’s serum after his unexpected sighting.
queensland grouper
You must catch a Queensland grouper near Cloud Island. Its massive size prepares you for the final encounter.
vegetime
You need to collect Vegetime around the landing pad. This ingredient is used as bait to attract the Bunyip.
bunyip
You can now face the Bunyip in the central reef area or near Devil’s Island. Use Steve’s special mixture from the Marina shop to complete the encounter.
